Monumoir Privacy Policy
Last updated: June 16, 2026
Monumoir helps you scan statues, monuments, memorials, and public artworks so you can learn the story behind them. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, why we collect it, who we share it with, and the choices you have.
When we say Monumoir, we, us, or our, we mean the Monumoir app and the services that support it. When we say you, we mean the person using the app.
The Short Version
We collect only what we need to run Monumoir:
- You need an account to use the app. You can sign in with a phone number, Apple, or Google.
- When you scan a monument, we use the photo to identify it.
- Location is required to identify monuments accurately.
- Your scans are shared on the public map by default.
- You can turn public sharing off in the app settings.
- We do not sell your personal information.
- We do not use advertising trackers or third-party analytics SDKs.
Information We Collect
Account Information
When you create or use an account, we may collect:
- Your phone number, if you sign in by SMS code
- Your email address, if provided by Apple or Google sign-in
- Your name or display name, if provided by Apple or Google sign-in
- Your profile information, such as display name, avatar URL, and sharing preference
- Your login session, so the app can keep you signed in
We use Supabase to provide authentication. If you use Apple or Google to sign in, those companies also process your sign-in according to their own privacy policies.
Photos You Scan
Monumoir needs camera access so you can take a photo of a monument. When you scan, the app sends the photo to our server so it can be identified using AI.
We store scanned photos in private cloud storage connected to your account. We also store the identification result, such as the monument name, history, facts, and scan date, so you can view your scan history later.
Location
Monumoir requires your location while you use the app to scan monuments.
We use your latitude and longitude to identify monuments accurately. If a scan is saved, the location may also be stored with that scan.
Favorites and Scan History
If you save a scan or mark a monument as a favorite, we store the related photo, identification result, and date so you can find it again.
Audio Narration
Monumoir can turn monument history into audio narration. When you play narration, we send the monument text to our text-to-speech provider, ElevenLabs, to generate audio.
The narration text is about the monument, not about you. Generated audio may be cached so we do not need to generate the same narration repeatedly.
Information Stored on Your Device
To make the app faster and more reliable, Monumoir stores some information on your device, including:
- Your login session
- Cached scan and favorite data
- Cached monument photos
- Cached narration audio
- Temporary image access links
You can remove locally stored data by signing out, deleting your account, clearing app data, or uninstalling the app, depending on your device settings.
Permissions We Ask For
Monumoir asks for these permissions:
- Camera: Required to scan monuments.
- Location: Required to identify monuments and save scan locations.
- Audio playback: Used to play monument narration.
We do not access your contacts or photo library. We do not record audio from your microphone.
How We Use Your Information
We use your information to:
- Create and manage your account
- Sign you in and keep your session active
- Identify monuments from scanned photos
- Identify monuments accurately using your location
- Save and show your scan history and favorites
- Generate and play audio narration
- Show scans on the public map only if you choose to share them
- Provide support, protect the app, and prevent abuse
- Delete your account and associated data when requested
We do not sell your personal information. We do not use your information for third-party advertising.
Public Sharing
Your scans are shared on the public map by default.
Other signed-in Monumoir users may be able to see the scans you share on the map. This may include:
- Your display name
- Your profile image, if you have one
- The scanned monument photo
- The monument identification result
- The scan location
You can turn public sharing off at any time in the app settings. Turning it off stops your scans from being shared publicly through Monumoir, subject to normal caching and technical processing delays.
Third-Party Services
We use trusted services to operate Monumoir:
- Supabase provides authentication, database, and file storage.
- OpenAI helps identify monuments from scanned photos.
- ElevenLabs generates audio narration.
- Mapbox displays maps.
- Apple provides Apple Sign In.
- Google provides Google Sign In.
- Twilio, through Supabase, may deliver SMS login codes.
When you scan a monument, your photo is sent to OpenAI for identification. If you allow location access, your location may also be included as context for the scan. OpenAI may retain API inputs according to its own policies.
When you play narration, the monument text is sent to ElevenLabs to generate audio.
These providers process information under their own privacy policies and terms.
What We Do Not Do
Monumoir does not:
- Sell your personal information
- Use third-party advertising SDKs
- Use third-party analytics SDKs
- Collect advertising identifiers
- Access your contacts
- Access your photo library
- Send push notifications
- Track you across other apps or websites
How Long We Keep Information
We keep your account information, scans, favorites, and uploaded photos while your account is active or as needed to provide Monumoir.
When you delete your account in the app, we delete your account and the main data connected to it, including your profile, scans, favorites, and uploaded scan photos.
Some information may remain for a limited time in backups, logs, caches, or third-party provider systems. Cached narration audio may remain because it is based on monument text and is not tied to your account.
Deleting Your Account
You can delete your account in the app:
Profile -> Settings -> Delete account permanently
Account deletion is permanent. It removes your account, scans, favorites, and uploaded scan photos from our active systems.
Security
We use reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect your information. This includes encrypted network connections, account-based access controls, and private storage for user scan photos.
No system is completely secure. You are responsible for keeping access to your device and sign-in method secure.
Your Choices and Rights
You can:
- Decline location permission
- Change location access later in your device settings
- Turn public sharing off in the app settings to keep scans private
- Delete your account in the app
- Contact us to request access, correction, deletion, or export of your information
Depending on where you live, you may have additional privacy rights. For example, residents of the European Economic Area, United Kingdom, California, and other regions may have rights to access, correct, delete, restrict, or object to certain processing of personal information.
We do not sell personal information or share it for cross-context behavioral advertising.
Children
Monumoir is not intended for children under 13, or under the age required by privacy law in your country. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
If you believe a child has provided personal information to Monumoir, please contact us so we can delete it.

Monumoir and the services we use may process information in the United States and other countries. These countries may have privacy laws that differ from the laws where you live.

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. If we make changes, we will update the date at the top of this page. If the changes are important, we may also notify you in the app or by another reasonable method.
